Paula Wilson
I like to work mainly in stoneware, sometimes porcelain, occasionally adding wild clay found locally. I’m interested mostly in form and texture, and particularly the combination of curious materials-experimenting, layering, seeing what happens. Sometimes where nothing was intended a scene may appear. There the story begins….
Clay found,
Held and turned.
Form.
Wood burned.
Ash and water fused.
Vessel Curious.
I like that vessels I make continue on a journey, new narratives being created. And maybe the draw of the clay for me is the adventurous processes involved, the transformative quality and the alchemy.

I do see the healing quality of clay, particularly for the children and young people I have worked alongside. Clay has a language all of its own.

When throwing on the wheel for me something ‘clicks’, there is rhythm in the process and partnership with the material. Something surfaces and becomes itself. The product is what we then live with, use, gaze at, love and share.
